Habitat: The pineapple is a perennial and grows about 1-1.5 meters tall. It blooms about 200 flowers and thereby it develops its fruit. It grows in South America, Asia, in the tropical regions.
Part used: Fruit and root.
Constituents: Bromelain, papain, Vitamin C, maganese.
Actions: Anti-inflammatory, astringent, abortificent, emmenagogue.
Uses:
Medical uses: Ananas comosus is used in case of water retention, inflammations, cellulite etc. It is used to induce periods. The root is used for diarrhea.
The name nanas, means “excellent fruit”, it has a very sweet taste and it is rich in vitamins.
Cautions: Do not use in pregnancy.
